Canada Transpacific Stabilization Agreement

(CTSA)

Member shipping lines in the Canada Transpacific Stabilization Agreement (CTSA) have altered their 2005 rate program to include separate pricing tiers for larger 40-foot high cubic capacity and 45-foot equipment sizes.

Effective with contract renewals, and no later than May 1, 2005, CTSA lines say they intend to raise freight rates by the following amounts:

West Coast Canada

US$

190 per 20ft container

240 per 40ft container

270 per 40ft high cube container

305 per 45ft container

Inland Point Intermodal (IPI)

US$

280 per 20ft container

350 per 40ft container

395 per 40ft high cube container

445 per 45ft container

All-Water East Coast Canada

US$

345 per 20ft container

430 per 40ft container

485 per 40ft high cube container

550 per 45ft container

Member Rates for 20-foot and standard 40-foot containers remain the same as announced in November 2004.

The adjustments reflect current and forecast cost trends in the Asia-Canada market for basic operations such as cargo handling, local trucking, equipment maintenance and repair, Asia feeder service and administration. Higher rail, trucking, vessel charter, equipment and other costs are also covered.

The Canada Transpacific Stabilization Agreement (CTSA) is a voluntary discussion and research forum of 12 major container shipping lines serving the trade from Asia to ports and inland points throughout Canada.

CTSA members include: American President Lines, Ltd., Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K Line), COSCO Container Lines, Ltd., Lykes Lines, Evergreen Marine Corp. (Taiwan), Ltd., Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), Hanjin Shipping Co., Ltd., P&O Nedlloyd Ltd./B.V., Hapag-Lloyd Container Line, Nippon Yusen Kaisha (N.Y.K. Line), Hyundai Merchant Marine Co., Ltd.  Orient Overseas Container Line, Inc.
