Important Message From CN Brampton

As per previous communiques, the process to make both a reservation and an appointment to enter CN Brampton will change. The new process applies to all drivers arriving at CN Brampton as of Monday June 6, 2005 to either drop off or pick up steamship containers. The new consolidated reservation/appointment process will be entirely online. Access is through CN's eBusiness site -- note this is not the site where you currently make your gate appointments. You must register for access to the new site, as follows:

Step 1 - get a CN eBusiness user ID. This will be the same user ID that you use to trace containers. If you do not currently have an eBusiness ID, go to www.cn.ca/register and follow the prompts. Each user in your company should have their own ID.

Step 2 - once you have an eBusiness user ID, sign onto the eBusiness site and select "Request Other Tools." Check the box called "Make Gate Appointment."

You will have access to the new system when the options "Gate Appointment Request" and "Gate Appointment Inquiry" appear on your eBusiness menu.
The new system will open at 09:00, two business days in advance. Therefore you may begin making appointments for Monday June 6 as of 09:00 on Thursday June 2. Reservation requests will no longer be accepted by e-mail.

There is a demo available to illustrate the new appointment booking process -- sign onto the CN eBusiness site. On the right side of the screen there is a list of demos. Select the demo titled "Gate Appointment Request."

Full details are available at
www.cn.ca/imx.

This new appointment system is presently in effect at CN Montreal. Many truckers were arriving at CN Montreal with appointments for containers other than those booked in their appointment, or arriving outside of their requested arrival window. This increased the processing time for these drivers resulting in delays in accessing the terminal. Please note the following tips to assist in reducing potential delay to your drivers:

- each driver may complete only one appointment per visit. The appointment may consist of more than one RV number (i.e. a drop RV and a pick up RV), however the RV numbers must be linked as one appointment. If the RV numbers were secured by different companies they are not part of the same appointment and cannot be used by one driver without dropping one container, leaving the terminal, and returning to pick up the second container.

- each driver must perform all activities as per the appointment. If the appointment is to drop booking number XXX123 the driver must drop a container with booking number XXX123. If the shipper loads a container with a different booking number the appointment must be modified before the driver arrives at the terminal.

- each driver must arrive within their appointment window on the correct day. Drivers arriving early will be asked to leave the terminal and return at the time listed in the appointment.

- you are not able to modify your appointment once your driver has been processed at the gate. If your appointment is to drop a container and you want to add a pick up to the appointment, the pick up must be added before the driver enters the terminal. After the driver enters the terminal your only option is to have the driver drop the container, depart the terminal, make a pick up appointment, and have your driver enter the gate queue.

- modifications to appointments (such as adding a pick up, etc) may only be made by a user from the company that made the original appointment.

- you have the ability make an appointment with multiple drops or multiple pick ups. Please note this should only be used for 20ft containers being handled by one driver on a B train.
