Proposed Amendments to the NAFTA Rules of Origin 

 
 

 

International Trade Minister James Peterson, United States Trade Representative Robert B. Zoellick and Mexican Secretary of Economy Fernando Canales announced a tentative agreement to liberalize the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) rules of origin for a broad range of foods, consumer and industrial products and the amendments be effective January 1, 2005.

In Canada, agreed changes will be implemented through amendments to the NAFTA Rules of Origin Regulations.

the Canada Gazette Notice Vol. 138, No. 32.

The Departments of International Trade and Finance (ITCAN) are inviting interested parties to submit their comments on the proposed changes to the rules of origin as well as new requests for further liberalization before September 28, 2004.
