(Canadian Transportation & Logistics) According to the Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association (CIFFA), several of their sources in Montreal have indicated that the IMX product is not
working, as there is a lack of sufficient rolling stock.
One carrier has informed CIFFA that there is a daily requirement of at least 6,000 feet of cars and that CN's supply is far short of this requirement.
From all indications received, the port was seven days behind earlier this week with a backlog rapidly increasing.
In response to CIFFA's request for an answer/update from CN, it received the following update
Monday:
Racine terminal -- On a ground count this AM of 10,000 feet, CN has supplied 5,000 feet of railcar. This 5,000 feet is broken down as follows: 1,000 feet of empty cars on the NHB, 2,000 feet of export
traffic arrived Sunday night and 2,000 feet of empty railcars ex Taschereau yard.
After today's loadings, there will be 5,000 feet of "old" traffic remaining on the ground as well as an additional 4,200
feet of "new" traffic ex the OOCL, Belgium, expected sometime Monday.
Tuesday AM's ground count will be 9,200 feet (approx). Inbound rail footage to Racine from Tuesday through Thursday will be 9000
feet... broken down as follows: 7,000 feet of export and 2,000 feet of empty cars ex Taschereau.
CN said it was a few days out of cycle.
"This is why we are pulling empty cars ex Taschereau to allow
Racine to get back into cycle. CN has experienced some problems with getting railcars turned at Cast terminal. We understand that they are having labour problems. With the cars stuck at Cast, the Port of Montreal
corridor has slowed somewhat. We expect to give further updates after the long weekend," said CN. |
